OUR
BACKGROUND
“EPAMM” comes
up after watching a French video where the people who had undergone
any kind of abuse during childhood or adolescence evidenced
deep depression and reiterated suicide attempts.
Then,
together with Dr. Ana González de Verrastro, Assistant Defense
Counsel of the Honorable National Justices of the Court of
Appeals in Civil matters and a group of professionals, decided
to make a different video, a video of hope, convinced that with
the own effort or with help, the human being can overcome any extreme
situation.
Furthermore,
it was our purpose, and we hope to have succeeded, that our
service would be a prevention tool .
EPAMM
wants to arrive in time, like a vaccine, preventing the fact. And
in perpetrated situations, to prevent the reiteration of
the fact on the abused child or on any potential victims.
The
video had the cooperation of lawyers, social workers, teachers,
psychologists and Dr.Eduardo Cárdenas who ,by then,
was Judge in family matters.
Every
detail was taken into account, so that the video could become
a valid instrument and suitable for minors of different ages, always
supervised by a specialized coordinator or teacher ,familiarized
with this matter.
Though
EPAMM was already working in the prevention field, the video is
first shown at the Leloir Institute Foundation with great success,
and a short time later the FIRST NATIONAL CONGRESS IN CHILDREN’S
ABUSE AND MISTREATMENT PREVENTION, was held at the General San
Martin Theatre..
More
than 600 persons attended, including participants from neighbouring
countries.
At
present, EPAMM goes on working at its main office of 1454 Viamonte
street, 1st floor “A”, Buenos Aires city,
in the northern and southern zones Argentine Red Cross, Lomas de
Zamora district.
Always
moving forward, the Association is planning a new video covering
children’s mistreatment and abuse, seen from points
of view other than the sexual one, but as destructive as the other;
misery, blows, lack of education, neglect and lack of love. In
fact, every mistreatment that causes very deep wounds.
I
finish this brief summary quoting a phrase I took from the “Sexual
abuse ABC”by Dr. Eduardo Cárdenas :” Let’s
open our hearts to the deep grief and loneliness felt by an abused
child”
PLEASE,
LET’S NOT BE INDIFERENT!!!
